What is a Digital Product Passport?
A digital product passport is a structured record assigned to a specific product or material batch. It consolidates identifiers, composition, origin, custody events, environmental data and supporting documents within one persistent digital identity.
On WasteTrade, authorised participants access the material passport through a QR code. The record remains attached to the batch, replacing fragmented email trails and spreadsheets with consistent, machine-readable information across collection, transport, reprocessing and manufacture.

How a Digital Product Passport works
The digital product passport is created when a material batch is accepted at the collection site. Its opening record establishes the source scheme, material classification, batch weight, contamination level, quality evidence and other intake data.
At dispatch, the container and seal identifiers are signed and timestamped. This creates the first auditable custody event and anchors the subsequent history of the batch.
